About Us

Ian Knapper is considered to be the biggest stone staircase designer in the United Kingdom, devoted to creating the best, made by hand, custom-made staircases from natural stone. Ian Knapper launched his journey into the world of stone masonry at the age of ten, not in the traditional way of picking up a hammer and chisel or a mallet but cleaning the floors of a nearby stone mason's yard. Amongst the dust, banging and carving, Ian's love for the art and craft of stone masonry was ignited. Over the previous years of practising and executing the restoration of historic buildings, Ian 's skills were strengthened while his desire for excellence in design and originality had grown. Then one day came the question, 'Do you want to build a stone staircase?' The future was set. Nowadays, using both old and new masonry, Ian Knapper produces the most spectacular and desirable works of art in stone imaginable. All of our staircases are handmade, ageless, and embrace the natural beauty of stone.

When it’s come’s to construction and or refurbishment it’s difficult to keep track of all that work going on around you, in between trying to hold down a full time job especially if you have children. When the builders start smashing and building daily how do you keep up with it all? You could argue that the builder has your plan and he knows what he’s doing and I’ll leave him to it. But does he truly understand the vision running around in your mind?
