If you’ll have the little ones in tow this year, you may think that your holiday destination choices are a bit more limited than when it was just the two of you - not true! While the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean are a top choice for families thanks to the great kids clubs that keep the younger ones entertained while mum and dad go for a quick swim or enjoy a colourful cocktail, there are many other choices if you fancy being a little more adventurous and seeing some new and different sights.
Here are 3 great holiday destinations for kids that you might not have considered:
If you’re not put off by the visa application process for Russia (don’t worry, it’s actually very simple), then St Petersburg is a great holiday destination for families. While it’s full of history and culture for the adults, there’s enough going on for the kids to keep them happy for the duration of your trip. The famous Mariinsky Theatre, for example, regularly puts on performances for the 6 to 10’s, like Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker. You could also take the kids to see Siberian tigers in the Leningrad Zoo, get the adrenaline pumping at the Divo Ostrov Amusement Park, or enjoy fun family day out at Kirov Park. St Petersburg tends to be quieter than Moscow, which makes it great for kids.
If you want to view some of the very best scenery in the world, take a trip to the Norwegian Fjords. And there’s no need to worry about the kids - there’s plenty to entertain them, even if they’re not interested in snow-capped mountains and waterfalls! Trondheim - a busy, bustling city located right at the mouth of the stunning Trondheimsfjord - is one of the best destinations for kids along the Norwegian coast. There’s an incredible swimming pool called Pirbadet that’s located right on the waterfront, with huge floor to ceiling windows that allow for great views. Inside, there’s a diving tower, climbing wall, wave pool, kids pool, and outdoor hot tubs. It’s Norway’s biggest pool!
Let’s be honest - Las Vegas is probably the last place you think of when you’re planning a holiday with children, but it’s actually one of the most entertaining and energetic places for kids. Really! While under-21s aren’t permitted on the casino floor, there’s plenty of other activities they can enjoy. How about shopping trip to M&M World or the Hershey store? Or holding the parrots in the Flamingo Resort’s beautiful gardens? Or watching the Mirage volcano erupt - one of many free shows you can see while walking along the famous ‘Strip’. Adventurous teens will also love the zip line that zooms right down Fremont Street, which is one of the most historic and interesting parts of Bright Light City.
